The real-life lipstick edit...
I love reading and writing lipstick edits, round-ups of all the lipsticks I've been loving, or those which perfectly suit the season we're in. Come Autumn/Winter, I always intend on writing a post packed full of gorgeous berry toned lipsticks, but in reality I think I've worn a berry lip once so far this season. It's become a bit of a joke how many lipsticks find their way into my handbag, and I often pull out handfuls of them, to the astonishment of my friends. I just throw them in there every time I leave the house and completely forget about them. So let's think of this as an edit of the lip products I've actually worn over the last couple of months, and not those I've intended to wear because it goes with the season. I'm predicting it'll be nude upon nude upon nude, no surprises there...
The Lipsticks
So we have a modest total of three lipsticks, two liquid lipsticks, a tinted lip balm and two lip liners. I've definitely worn other lipsticks during this time, notably my Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy and the YSL Rouge Volupté Shine* (£28) in Nude Lavalliere, both of which I tend to take straight back out of my bag after I've used them as they're more luxury lipsticks, hence I'd be more pissed if I lost them. All of the lipsticks in question are faily nude options, in a variety of finishes.
Essence Sheer & Shine Lipstick in All About Cupcake | I pulled this out when I wanted a subtle hint of colour - I was going for the Glossier no-makeup-makeup look. This shade is actually more of a peachy pink, so it's not the most seasonally appropriate, but it made me remember just how much I love this shade. It's actually one of my most-used lipsticks and the shade has sadly been discontinued, which is devastating as it's the perfect peachy wash of colour, and it is nice and moisturising on the lips too.
Maybelline ColorSensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in Beige Babe (£6.99) | This range has one of my favourite matte lipstick formulas, and the best part is you'll get change from a tenner! I love so many of the shades, but Beige Babe is the perfect nude for me. It's got the right balance of pink and brown tones, and offers a light nude shade without going all "concealer lips" on your ass... It is perfect all over, or patted in the centre of the lips over a darker lip liner or lipstick.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Blushed (£7.99) | Again, this is one of my favourite lipsticks, especially for the autumn months. Don't be put off by the Pearl finish (hey, metallic lips are in, right?) as Blushed is a stunning rusty shade that has a warm-toned microfine shimmer that just makes your face sing and adds dimension to your lips to make them look more full. If you have pale skin, dark hair and hazel eyes like I do, this shade gives your skin so much life. It has a comfortable balmy texture that both moisturises and offers a slick of colour that just makes you look more put together. It's my secret weapon!
The Liquid Lipsticks
Onto lipsticks of the liquid variety, I'm surprised there weren't more of these in my bag. I've definitely worn the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick (£16) in the shade Mannequin, because when do I not? It's my go-to nude liquid lip shade! Now that I have the mini, it can have a permanent home in my handbag. I also wore the shade Skin Tight recently, but it went straight back in the box because I'm totally not ready to ditch the Mini Nudes bundle (watch the swatch video here) packaging yet...
MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Halcyon (£3) | This warm, peachy nude is just perfect for the autumn, and it pairs so well with the shades in the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette (read my first impressions and full review). I love the formula of these liquid lipsticks, and they're so good for the minuscule price of £3.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare (£17) | Double Dare is a muted rosy shade with a touch of brown, that makes it the perfect shade for this time of year. It's not too OTT, but it is an easy way to add a nod to autumn into your makeup look. I often overlook the KVD formula as it's not hugely long-lasting, but it is nice and comfortable so is a good everyday option.
The Lip Liners
Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in Tiramisu (£2.99) | I originally grabbed this lip liner to wear with Maybelline Beige Babe, and it was a little too warm to wear with that one, but I left it in my bag and pulled it out when I wore MUA Halcyon and it worked perfectly. These Rimmel lip liners aren't my favourite formula as they're aren't the softest lip liners, but I do enjoy the shade of this one.
Maybelline ColorSensational Shaping Lip Liner in Nude Whipser* (£3.99) | Now this is the perfect shade to wear with Beige Babe. This is a great lip liner, and one that I haven't stopped talking about or using since I got it at the start of the year. I have found that it seems to have dried up a tiny bit, so it takes a bit of warming up on the back of your hand, but once you get it going it has a really nice, creamy texture that works with so many of my nude lipsticks. Plus there's a teeny tiny sharpener so you can always have a precise tip to outline your lips.
The Lip Balm
Sephora Color Adapt Lip Balm | Courtesy of my lovely friend Aria, this is the perfect lip product to throw in your bag. Not only does it keep your lips moisturised for hours, it also adapts to your perfect shade of sheer pink. It's particularly great if your lips are feeling too chapped to wear a proper lipstick and it still gives a bit of colour. I've tried a few lip balms like this in the past and they've been quite rubbish, but this one has really impressed me, particularly as it is actually nourishing on the lips.
