What I Eat In A Day

I love reading and watching other people's 'What I Eat in a Day' posts and videos, so I thought it was about time I did my own. This also gave me the perfect opportunity to play around with some new kitchen goodies from Savant Kitchen. It's not something I've spoken about too much on this blog, but I'm a bit of a foodie and I love cooking. I don't cook as much as I used to when I was at uni, but I still love collecting recipes and of course, eating. Being a Sunday, my meals were pretty simple as I am the laziest person in the world try to get as much blog work done as possible. The weekends also obviously warrant a cheat day so I'm not going to pretend to be a typical blogger living off kale and chia seeds. Sorry if that's what you were expecting...

Breakfast

To start off the day, I made some lemon water with the Savant Kitchen Citrus Press* (RRP £19.99 £2.99 with my exclusive discount). I'd wanted a gadget like this for a while, and I am pleased to report that this is really easy to use, sturdy and a lot less messy than squeezing by hand. A squeeze of lemon makes a refreshing yet healthy addition to water, and is particularly lovely with a few ice cubes thrown in. At the weekends I'm not that fussed about breakfast, so I kept it light with a simple combo of banana, tangerine and kiwi but on a typical weekday I'd have something more filling like porridge.

Snack

Mid-morning, I got that coffee craving and instead of braving the cold outdoors to nip to Starbucks, I decided to DIY it with the Beanies Gingerbread Instant Coffee (£2.50). This tastes really festive, and is so much nicer than your average instant coffee. I like to add a spoonful of sugar to give a more rounded flavour. I never used to love whipped cream, but I've been obsessed with it recently as it makes homemade drinks feel so much more luxurious. To finish it off, I crumbled some gingernut biscuits over the top, which was a great idea in theory, but the biscuit did end up as a soggy mess at the bottom of my cup. Maybe I'll add some of that Starbucks Caramel Drizzle next time...

Lunch

I had quite a late breakfast (I'm not even sure it was the morning...), so I didn't want anything too filling for lunch. I wanted to give the Savant Kitchen Multi Slicer* (RRP £19.99 £2.99 with my exclusive discount) a go, and after seeing that it had a rather nifty chip attachment, I knew that sweet potato fries were the way to go. Sweet potato is one of my all time favourite vegetables, and was something I pretty much lived on whilst at uni. Tasty and nutritious they may be, but they are a bitch to cut if you're a weakling like me. If it's perfectly uniform fries you're after, then the Multi Slicer is perfect. My top tip is to do it on a lower surface like a table rather than the kitchen worktop, as it'll be easier to cut if you use your whole body weight to lean onto it. I will say that it is sharper than you'd expect it to be so be really careful, especially when you're using the gadget to cut the more dense vegetables.

To make my Perfect Sweet Potato Fries, I popped them on a baking tray with a drizzle of olive oil, some salt, pepper and some rosemary, and roasted them for 30 minutes at gas mark 6/200°C. To accompany the fries, I made a really quick garlic mayo, preparing my garlic with the garlic crusher which comes in the Savant Kitchen set. This chops the garlic without all the mess and garlicky hands, but if you add a pinch of sea salt, the garlic breaks down into something finer, which is great to use for dips or garlic bread.

Snack

Come 3pm, I was a bit peckish and it was time for my chocolate fix. Kinder Buenos are never my first choice of chocolate, but I always really enjoy them. I like most of the Kinder sweets, and I'm desperate to try the Schoko-Bons which are chocolate bites with the hazelnut filling. Aaaall the yums...

Dinner

Dinner was a lazy affair and consisted of a chow mein ready meal from Tesco. I was a bit of a fail and may have forgotten to photograph it, but it wasn't anything to shout home about. The noodles were tasty, with the inclusion of some amazingly flavoursome shiitake mushrooms, but I found the chicken a bit dry. One of my pet peeves is when a dish contains recooked chicken, so in ready meals like this I usually just leave it.

Snack

The hunger train arrived again around 8 o'clock, so I had one of my favourite healthy snacks. I used the apple attachment of the Multi Slicer, which made light work of chopping the fruit and got rid of the core in one. All I did was spread on some peanut butter and scoff. I used the Sunpat Smooth, although I usually go for one of the more natural brands like Meridian. Apple and peanut butter is one of the most incredible, yet seriously underrated combinations. Honestly, I urge you to give it a go, you won't regret it.
